Writing
Project Leader & Contact Information
Project Description
This project is designed in a way that gives students the ability to complete a full-length novel over the span of one school year. In addition, we will be working on skills and strategies to continue to grow our portfolios. Topics of conversation include, but are not limited to: plotting, character development, prose, research, writing style, the importance of reading as a writer, etc. In terms of curriculum, we will be using an altered version of Randy Ingermanson’s “The Snowflake Method”, as well as activities from the official 4H Writing Curriculum, “The Writer in You”. We will also be participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) as a group during the month of November.
Regular monthly meetings will be held the first Thursday of every month from 6:00-8:00 at the 4H Extension Office. These meetings will all revolve around our novels. As a bonus, “supplemental” meetings will be held on the third Thursday of every month, 6:00-8:00, location TBD. These meetings will be more relaxed get-togethers with lessons applicable to the general craft of writing, rather than specifically novel-focused.
Senior and Intermediate students are welcome. Writing a novel requires a lot of work and dedication, keep that in mind while signing up.
No fees, but a reliable device with a word processor is HIGHLY recommended.
